Taken at MOTE Marine Aquarium in Sarasota...it may be dead and all, but I'd still hate to think of the many prey items that went through that radula. *shudder* In any case, I think the little girls standing there serve as a great size comparison. ^^;

What lies beyond no one knows for sure. But if no one will muster the courage to step forth into the great unknown, no one will ever know.

Giant squids have always fascinated me. Do you know two Japanese marine biologists have pictures of a live one now? They got over 500 pictures of a 29-foot individual that was eating bait from a squid line.

Even the photos don't show the eye properly...carcasses like the one above, the eye had already decayed. You know how big they are, but you wonder how they really look... :o_O:

As for food items, yeah...

I believe that it's become a Discovery Channel special called "Giant Squid: Caught on Camera." They are gigantic predators, and even I don't think I'd want to get too close. <.< Considering who and what I am, that's really saying something. I imagine the eye would be hard to capture on camera because of its refectivity (they've got tapetum lucidums, right?). In any case, I thank you for your comment. It's always nice to receive some intelligent rhetoric.

There's an awsome movie called "the beast" with a 30 meter long gianrt squid ... It's like "the shark" but a giant squid instead that attacks boats AND houses near the shore and eats the people that it gets into the water :)

Heh, very nice. I'll have to be on the lookout for it. Thanks for the info...and now you know that these things really -do- exist. ;P

It would be amazing to see one of those alive. Too bad we haven't ever seen one face to face. That would be both frightening and awesome at the same time
